Get Ready for Better Hearing Month!

Wesson Hearing Aid CenterBlog

Every year the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) takes the month of May to raise awareness about communication disorders and the role of ASHA members in providing life-altering treatments. This year the theme of Better Hearing & Speech Month is “Communication Across the Lifespan,” so let’s discuss what we can do to recognize and support this important effort!

Hearing issues need to be addressed across the board by both individuals with hearing loss and those without. We want to encourage people with hearing problems to learn more about their own hearing loss issues, while also encouraging their loved ones to get informed and get educated! We also cannot stress enough how important it is to get your hearing tested—whether or not you think you are experiencing hearing loss symptoms, it is important to know where your hearing stands.

The number one way to spread awareness about hearing issues is to educate yourself. You are the best weapon out there for spreading knowledge. Even if you have hearing aids already, many individuals do not fully understand how hearing loss occurs or how it can affect overall health and wellness if it is ignored. Check out some more articles from our blog and do some research so you can stay fully informed!

After you wrap your head around your hearing loss it is important to talk with your family, friends, and loved ones. Not only do you need to fill them in on your experience, but it is also vital to help them with preventative measures for their own hearing health. You may have family or friends who still have their reservations about addressing their hearing issues. One of the biggest differences you can make is to talk to your loved ones about how your life has been positively impacted since addressing your own hearing loss. You have an important job to do, so do not be afraid to share. People need to know that they are not alone!

Once you have educated yourself and spread the word to those around you, it can be a wonderful next step to use social media to tell people about the positive impact of hearing technology in your life. We have a whole network of people on Facebook and Instagram who need to hear about your experience! Let’s use Better Hearing Month to spread awareness and break down the stigma surrounding hearing aids. It is our time to encourage others to confront hearing issues in order to improve overall health!
